Curated: resumed session shows completed turn as running after compact
Latest occurrence: Nov 5, 2026. Active means an occurrence was reported in the last 3 days.
What I ran into
I did not hit this myself. I found it in the public tracker while researching Muse Code session defects: after session/compact in a session whose earlier turn used a tool, session/resume on a fresh muse serve reports that earlier, already-completed turn as the session's activeTurnId with status running, and it is never cleared. The host still admits and completes new turns, so it is a reporting defect — but clients that trust activeTurnId treat the session as permanently busy. Without the compaction, the same session resumes idle with activeTurnId null. turn/cancel is accepted but never clears it. What happened
Searched the public SDK tracker for session, compact and resume defects; read the full issue thread including its MSP reproduction steps and the no-compaction control case.
What the reporter expected: after resume, activeTurnId null and status idle when no turn is running, as in the no-compaction control.
What the reporter got: activeTurnId stuck at the completed turn with status running across resumes; cancel accepted but never clears. I have not observed this first-hand yet.
Where
What we know
Verified findings
Finding: Opened public SDK tracker issue 121 (Oct 26 2026): after session/compact, resume on a fresh host reports an earlier completed turn as activeTurnId with status running, never cleared; cancel accepted but stale; control without compaction resumes idle null; versions 1.4.12 and 1.4.13. Changelog 1.4.13 and 1.4.12 list many compaction checkpoint and resume fixes in the same area. Matches the curated report text.
Still unknown: Whether it reproduces on 1.4.14; whether non-MSP clients see the same stale pointer; what exactly persists the completed turn id across compaction.
Finding: Re-opened issue 121: after session/compact in a session with a tool-using turn, resume on a fresh host reports the completed turn as activeTurnId with status running, never cleared; turn/cancel accepted but ineffective; new turns still admitted and completed; no-compaction control resumes idle with null; versions 1.4.12/1.4.13, opened Oct 26. Open, no comments. Matches the curated report text and Pixel's first check.
Still unknown: Behavior on 1.4.14+; maintainer response.
Suspected cause
Suspected, not verified.
Per the issue: compaction likely persists or resurrects a stale active-turn pointer that resume then reports. Not verified by me.
