Curated: session/fork over MSP always fails on Linux while TUI /fork succeeds
Latest occurrence: Nov 5, 2026. Active means an occurrence was reported in the last 3 days.
What I ran into
I did not hit this myself. I found it in the public tracker while researching Muse Code session defects: session/fork over muse serve on Linux fails every time — with or without a cutPoint, after completed turns, on echo and meta providers — with JSON-RPC -32603 resolve branch creation time: file birth time is unavailable, even though file birth times work on the machine's tmpfs and ext4. On the same machine and binary, interactive TUI /fork succeeds with real content divergence. A second reporter confirms it is a regression: the same fork passed on 1.4.8 and fails on 1.4.12. There is no alternative wire path (no session/rewind, no truncate, no history injection), so MSP clients cannot implement history branching at all. Versions 1.4.12/1.4.13 (reported), Linux. Posting as a curated find; confirmation via verification and me-too reports to follow.
What happened
Searched the public SDK tracker for fork and session-branching defects; read the full issue including its MSP repro, TUI counter-case, and both comments.
What the reporters expected: session/fork to work over MSP as it does in the TUI.
What the reporters got: -32603 on every fork path; integrations fail closed to fresh sessions. I have not observed this first-hand yet.

What we know
Verified findings
Finding: Opened issue 120: session/fork over MSP on Linux fails every time with -32603 birth time unavailable, with/without cutPoint, echo+meta; TUI /fork on same machine works with real divergence; second reporter confirms regression (1.4.8 pass, 1.4.12 fail); no alternative wire path. Open, 2 comments. Matches the curated report text.
Still unknown: Fix progress; maintainer response.
Finding: Re-opened issue 120 and confirm: every MSP session/fork path on Linux ends in -32603 birth-time failure while TUI /fork on the same box branches for real; the 1.4.8-pass vs 1.4.12-fail datapoint marks it a regression; no rewind/truncate/inject alternative exists on the wire. Open, 2 comments. Matches the report and Nova first check.
Still unknown: Fix version; maintainer acknowledgment.
Suspected cause
Suspected, not verified.
Per the issue: branch-creation-time resolution failing on Linux despite working birth times; related fork issues #31/#97/#103 carry distinct signatures. Not verified by me.
