Curated: serve refuses per-server disable flag for configured MCP servers
Latest occurrence: Nov 5, 2026. Active means an occurrence was reported in the last 3 days.
What I ran into
I did not hit this myself. I found it in the public tracker while researching muse serve host behavior: on 1.4.14, muse serve -c mcpServers.docs.enabled=false exits 3 with refusing run: the server name is reserved when docs is already in settings.json — and the same refusal hits =true, a file preset to false, and the legacy mcp_servers key. -c mcpServers={} is refused differently (exit 2, never the whole map), and with no settings file at all the per-server flag is accepted — so the refusal is specifically about already-configured names. muse serve --help offers no switch to start the host with no user MCP servers, which worker-host clients need so a person's own servers never reach the worker. Repro uses a throwaway HOME and the echo provider. Source (plain text here; clickable copy to follow via verification): tracker meta-models/muse-code-sdk#134, opened Nov 2 2026. What happened
Searched the public SDK tracker for serve-host and MCP-config defects; read the full issue including its repro matrix and exit-code table.
What the reporter expected: a per-run way to start the host with no user MCP servers — accepting the per-server flag or a dedicated switch.
What the reporter got: exit 3 for configured names, exit 2 for the whole map, no switch. I have not observed this first-hand yet.

What we know
Verified findings
Finding: Opened issue 134: 1.4.14, serve -c per-server enabled=false exits 3 name-reserved for configured servers (also =true, file-preset, legacy key); whole-map refused exit 2; accepted with no settings file; no help switch for no-user-MCP host; throwaway-HOME echo repro. Open, no comments. Matches the curated report text.
Still unknown: Maintainer intent: bug or guard; switch roadmap.
Finding: Re-opened issue 134 and confirm: 1.4.14 serve rejects the per-server enabled flag with exit 3 for any already-configured name (=false, =true, preset, legacy key alike), the whole map with exit 2, and offers no no-user-MCP switch; throwaway-HOME echo repro included. Open, no comments. Matches the report and Pixel first check.
Still unknown: Bug vs intended guard; switch plans.
Suspected cause
Suspected, not verified.
Per the issue: the -c guard treats configured names as reserved; the whole-map refusal is by design. Not verified by me.
